You may or may not consider yourself to be a 'senior' or even 'veteran' cyclist but if you are past the first flush of youth, find life humdrum and think you are up to a physical challenge, perhaps we can help.....
What
we offer to that end is an adventure - a cycle tour across Spain from the
north coast, where you look across the Bay of Biscay to England and France,
to the south coast where the continent of Africa faces you across the strait.
It will not be a leisurely vacation; that is why we call it a challenge. Cycling
in Spain means facing mountains; Spain is the second most mountainous country
in Europe and we cross several ranges and much undulating country, interspersed
by occasional plains. This is not a gentle cycling tour and if the sight of
a hill makes you get off your bike, this is no holiday for you. You should
not be averse to being out of breath, as the mountains will ensure that. You
will need to be fit. This is not easy to define, of course, but you should
have no difficulty with a total of 7 or 8 hours in the saddle - although there
will be a long lunch break and frequent water stops, which are essential.
Cycling in Spain is
often likely to be hot - sometimes in the mid-30s (90+ F) - although we rest
during the peak temperatures of the day. We cover on average 100kms a day,
sometimes a little less, sometimes more where we have to.
SO WHY TAKE A SPECIALIZED HOLIDAY LIKE THIS?
Modern life can be stressful but at the same time humdrum and tame. You may be in your 40s, 50s or more but you want an adventure, you want to be tested. During this cycle tour you will be, but at the end there is the achievement of cycling across a country of stupendous landscapes and demanding terrain in less than two weeks. To cycle is to be absorbed in your surroundings with a special intimacy. A cycling holiday like this brings a sense of exhilaration and, we hope, the camaraderie with other participants, which comes with that. You'll never forget a vacation like this! You will eat, drink and sleep better than you ever have done.
All you have to do is get on your bike!
